Det har kommit till Sametingets styrelses kännedom att trilogen för Critical Raw Materials Act är inne i sin slutfas. Från Sametingets håll vill vi poängtera att Europaparlamentet lagt fram ett förslag som inkluderar formuleringar om FPIC.

Sametingets styrelse ser med stor oro på om de nationella staterna, inkluderat Sverige, inte följer det förslaget och respekterar internationell rätt och sina åtaganden om mänskliga rättigheter. Vi vill påminna om att det samiska folket är Europas urfolk. Från Sametinget är det ett krav att skrivningar om konsultation och inhämtande av FPIC behålls för att garantera urfolks mänskliga rättigheter. Det ska gälla oavsett om exploateringsprojekt planeras inom eller utanför Europa.

The Sami Parliament in Sweden urges the EU Member States, including Sweden, to respect international law and human rights obligations regarding the rights of indigenous peoples. As a minimum level the CRMA (article 6(1)) should include measures on meaningful consultation and FPIC as set out in the UN declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples.

The Sami Parliament is deeply concerned by the information received that Sweden and Finland and possibly other MS strongly oppose such references. We call upon the Commission and Council to follow the proposal from the Parliament and conclude a CRMA that safeguards the rights of the Sami and other indigenous peoples within the EU as well as in third countries.
